Welcome the forums!

Backing up any important data and then doing a fresh install is usually a better approach if it's not out of the question for some reason.oz

How would i go toward doing a fresh install?
My FC9 install was off of a textbook dvd.
Would i need to burn fedora 11 onto a cd or something along those lines?
Also thanks for the welcome!? i hope i'll be around more often

It may be possible to do a "live" upgrade from 9 to 10 and 10 to 11, but Fedora doesn't recommend it.
Upgrading Fedora using yum - FedoraProject
Otherwise, yes, you would need to burn an installation or live cd, or if your computer supports booting from USB, you could make a bootable flash drive.

If needed, you can check this HowTo for burning the ISO file(s) to CD/DVD:

Awesome. So I have two options. CD or my GF's 8 gb flash drive.
I'm still reading through some of the pages, but what would usually come up with less issues?
The cd or the flash drive? Also Which of the CD burning software do you guys recommend?
like What do you guys use personally? Will a 700 mb cd work ok? I get the feeling it'll be way too small.
Thanks again Guys

The most common errors in burning ISO file to disk are that the user simply copies the file to the disk rather than burning it as an image, or that they burn it too fast and introduce errors into the image.
I prefer K3b or Brasero for burning disks, but those apps are Linux apps. I don't use any Windows burners.
A 700 MB CD should work unless the image is too large for the disk. I think each Fedora CD image should fit on a 700 MB CD. If you download the DVD ISO file, it won't fit or work on a 700 MB disk.oz

Well i'm running Fedora so i'll use one of those apps you listed,
also how i understand it, the fedora cd image is the live cd with the KDE desktop right? and the DVD image is the Full fedora and all repos? is this right?
if so, once i download, burn, and install the the cd image can i then upgrade it to the version i would find on the dvd?
Sorry to be asking so many questions.

It looks like you can only upgrade from 10 to 11 using the DVD.
Chapter*18.*Upgrading Your Current System
The DVD does not contain all the repos, no. It contains a more than the live cd, but you would need many DVDs to contain everything in the repositories.
There are live cds using both GNOME and KDE, I believe.Last edited by reed9; 10-18-2009 at 02:44 PM.
