    Hey guys, new here

    Hello..

I am currently running vista 32 bit on my laptop.

I am going to upgrade my vista to 7 and then partition some Linux OS on it.

    I downloaded so far.

    Kubuntu 9.04
    Ubuntu 9.04 KDE
    Linux Mint Gloria 7 KDE
    Fedora 11
    openSUSE 11.1 KDE4
    Hakin9 3.0

Which of these do you think I should install first?

And.. How much space per OS should I allow?

I am running 3gb of RAM and a 230 GB hdd.. I am going to soon upgrade to a 1tb internal drive, although I already have 3tb external. =D

Also, I really am wanting to install the Hakin9 software, but when installing, does it operate on its own OS, or do I have to install a linux OS first and then boot it?

    Thanks..

I really want to learn more about linux and its infinite possibilities!

    Welcome to the forums!

Kubuntu or Linux Mint would be a good place to start.

About 15 gigs of space should be plenty for the root partition and if you make a /home partition, about 15 gigs or more for that should work. It really doesn't matter how big they are as long as they are big enough. Too small will present problems for you very quickly.

The system resides on the root partition. You can have your files stored on the root partition along with the system files, but in their own home folder, or you can create a dedicated /home partition and all your files and settings will be stored there. I always create a separate /home partition when I install Linux.

    A Linux file system tour

It will seem very different to the Windows file system.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
