    Hello and Welcome
Redhat 9 reached it's end of life a few years ago and it unsupported. It would help if you could get a newer version of GNU/Linux.

It is unlikely that you will be able to accomplish it, given how old all the software is in red hat 9, including libraries and other things. There are websites that sell (real cheap) or have free linux CD's, though they take some time to arrive.

This page provides a list of vendors worldwide who will sell you CentOS media. CentOS is the community version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It is binary compatible and very popular for cost-sensitive enterprises. www.centos.org - centos.org content

    IF you insist!
You would need to compile the kernel from scratch and as mentioned above, it probably still won't work, but by all means, please do try and let us know how it goes.
First thing you need to do is download the kernel sources that you need.

Here is a howto, but you will need to know which modules to choose, whether you should use drivers as modules or built into the kernel.
How to: Compile Linux kernel 2.6

Don't forget there's all the support stuff, user libraries, applications and such to rebuild because the changes between 2.4 and 2.6 kernels are so extensive. This is not just a kernel rebuild...
