Loading Usb 2.0 Driver With Syslinux?
Hello,
I am trying to enable USB 2.0 speeds from a pendrive and i also want to enable USB 1.1(at least) where the bios doesn't support booting from a USB drive.
I found a dos USB 2.0 driver, it is a single exe, and it says to load to such as, DEVICE=DUSE.EXE
so can i add this line to a syslinux.cfg and obviously add the DUSE.EXE to the pendrive root?
Or can i not mix linux syslinux and dos commands?
Is there a way to load the USB 2.0 from a linux driver instead if not.
So if the bios supports booting from USB then i assume it will default to USB 1.1 so therefore i can load the USB 2.0 driver from the pendrive.
If the bios does not support booting from USB then i would have to load the USB drivers from a CD first then i should be able to boot from the pendrive, anyone done this?
thanks.

You can't use DOS executables like that with Linux. If you load a Linux kernel it will automatically load the correct drivers according to your hardware. If you are trying to boot from devices not supported by your BIOS you should have a look at Smart Boot Manager.

Thanks for quick reply.
For some reason i couldn't log in so had to create a new account, reset password but still saying invalid password with first account.
So if you load any kernel fro syslinux, vmlinuz, linux, linux24, memdisk, or if it is what i assume is a custom kernel like rescue(kaspersky AV) then you say these all detect the USB capabilities and load the USB 1.1/2.0 drivers, i will take your word for it. Is there anyway of checking from a boot envirnoment what USB driver is loaded??
Only thing is, i have a few apps on a USB stick and they seem awfully slow to load and run from boot, i assumed they must be running at USB 1.1 speed, i would say a CD boot is probably faster, just from observing.
Also if the bios does not support USB booting how can i first load the USB driver from a CD, any ideas?
thanks again.
