[SOLVED] links to application confusion
I have never taken a computer course, so I am struggling with the very basics, sorry.
In Firefox 3.5, when I download something, I can right click onto the download and get a pop-up menu. If I choose "open containing folder" a box appears that is labeled "Launch application" . It says "choose an application" so I press choose. Another box appears that looks like a file manager. What do I do next? Where are the applications hidden? How do I create this link? Is there hope for this idiot and finally "are we having fun, yet?"

When you right-click a download in Firefox, it is asking if you want to open the file, or if you want to save it to disk. Choose "save link as" if you want to save it to disk, or "open in a new window/tab" if you want to open the file, but you do have to have an application installed that will open that file type to actually open it.
What distribution are you running, and what desktop environment?
Also, what file is it that you are trying to open, or is this happening with all files?oz

I can figure the rest out from here . . . again thanks
