hacking/tinkering with programs
ok, so i'm sorta new to linux, i was introduced years ago, but it never caught on until recently, and i know you guys love to tinker with the default settings of things, so i hope i can get some help, or at least pointed in the right direction.
#1) Tomboy notes. I like the highlight feature, it's really useful in research and whatnot, but i hate the obnoxious yellow. I would love to change it to a more subtle yellow, or even a soft mint color or something. Is there a configuration file i can access and edit somewhere, or would it even be possible to edit it from the source and recompile it?
#2) Vectoroids. Gosh i love the original asteroids, and this is just about it. It saves my progress from session to session, although as soon as it's game over i always have to start over from level 1, and the first 5 levels are always slow and boring. I want to find the file that Vectoroids uses to save progress, and make a copy of it after level 5, then i can just easily replace the real with my copy every time its game over using the terminal, but where would i start to look for that file? I'm still used to looking under "program files" for these kinds of things, and i look around in my filesystem and i'm not sure what i'm looking at sometimes. what's in var, what's in usr, what's in tmp, what's in sys, what's in srv, etc etc? I'm thirsty for more Linux knowledge
Oh, and my distro is EasyPeasy1.5 (it's Ubuntu Jaunty NBR with a custom kernel and a bunch of restricted packages included, and other tweaks specific to netbooks)

Welcome to the forums!
It's my understanding that there is currently no way to change the color of the highlighting on tomboy. There are a couple of bug reports related to tomboy color issues here:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349625
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=584454
I'm unable to respond at all on the other question, so maybe someone else will chime in with some help.oz

@nujinini
Thanks, that's just the kind of stuff I was looking for. I might be able to figure out the vectoroids hacks from there, and for Tomyboy notes, i'll look into that after finals if i don't any other advice, since the color seems to be "hard coded." although it seems like something as simple as specifying a color in source code would be relatively simple to isolate and change, but then again, I've never looked at it.
May the FOSS be with you

still cannot find the file in which vectoroids saves data. is there any way of finding all the files associated with a certain program? i already tried using dpkg -L vectoroids, and all it showed was stuff from the initial install. any other way?

Hi,
Glad you liked the link.
I am still trying to learn linux and have just been in the forums the past nine months so i'm afraid I can't be too much of a help regarding your question. I hope somebody would be able to clarify you on your quest. May the FOSS be with you also
