    Angry Linpus Linux Help Please!

Hi All, Im new here just found the forum Yesterday as I bought a new netbook.

My netbook is Acer aspire one.

When I charged it up then switched it on it loads all in a black screen with white writing. Until it comes to

Linpus Linux LiveCD Edition v9.2 bo90313av2

    [root at localhost / ]#

Then whatever I type it says command not found.

Anyone any ideas???? nothing like startx or adduser works.

Has my laptop been sold to me with some software missing?

    Thanks

    Hi and Welcome !

Are you booting up from LiveCD?

If startx command throws command not found error, X Server ( necessary for GUI ) has not been installed and you have basic text mode linpus only.

Consider installing any other Linux distro. Post your Netbook's configuration here.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I think that I also have only the basic text mode aswell.

    Configuration = Aspire One D250-0Br Netbook, 10.1", Intel Atom N270 / 1.6 GHz, 1GB RAM, DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB HDD - Ruby Red

How do I get another Linux Distro?

    Thanks

Linux distros are free to Download and install.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix will be best for you. Details are here. You can download its .iso image from here. Installation instructions are at Download page only.
If you face any problem during installation, don't hesitate to post back here.
    Good Luck !

    Hi again,

So I downloaded the file and burnt it to a disk.

Now this is the part which is unclear to me , do I copy all the disk to a usb? or just part of it?

Then put the USB in my new netbook and restart it?

Does your Netbook has CD/DVD drive? If yes then set CD Drive as First boot device in BIOS and boot up from it. If you don't have CD Drive, follow instructions from here to bootable USB disk.

If you don't mind Casper. Let me jump in here.

If you downloaded some thing like Ubuntu Netbook Remix . First did you download the iso file on a Windows Computer? If so.

    Download Unetbootin (Windows Version).

    After downloading Unetbootin.
Stick in your Usb Pendrive. Format the who drive as Fat32, Make sure no residual Windows software remains on the pendrive like Sandisks U3 software.

After formatting pen drive is done. eject it (safely remove) in Windows. Then plug it back in again so it mounts and shows up under my computer again.

Open up Unetbootin. Click on Disk Image. Find the Ubuntu Network remix iso (the burned cd will not work for this. It must be the downloaded iso file from the net)
Make sure the right drive on USB drive section is selected.
    Hit OK.
Unetbootin will make a bootable pendrive that will run on your Acer Aspire One.

I have done this on my wifes Acer Aspire One ZG5 to install Easy Peasy 1.5.

    Good luck with it.

Edit: just saw your Ubuntu Link Casper. Well, mine is just the Windows alternative I guess, My wifes Acer Aspire One has XP on it. Hence that is why I did it that way.
