There are some very real differences
Their scripting languages vary for instance csh is designed with a c-like language. They will have differing abilities. Some are extendable and some are designed to be very light and fast, for example dash which is often used as a start up shell. If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards.
