network
When using Fedora in VMWare, sometimes I can connect to the internet and sometimes I cannot. I do nothing differently on different days. I restart the machine and / or shut the machine down at the end of the day. When the machine starts back up the next time, I might have an internet connection or I might not have an internet connection. The 2 computer symbol that appears in the top will also sometimes be displayed. If I have that icon and click on it, it will display connections I can use including a sys one. I have a bridged connection chosen in VMWare also. Furthermore, when I click on the System -> Administration -> Network Device Control, 'eth0' is listed and it is listed as 'active'.
Yesterday I could ping out to a specific ip address on our network ( 192.168.1.xxx ). Now, I cannot ping that same ip address. I receive an error 'Destination host unreachable'.
How can I make it so that I have the internet connection every time I start up the machine? What do I need to check as far as the internet connection goes and the network connection?

Internet connection
I will also add that I had an internet connection yesterday. I had originally posted a different thread and thought I was having issues with putty connection. But, now I see that was not the main issue. I cannot connect to my machine with putty today on port 22, but I am sure once I figure out why I do not have the internet, that I will know why I also cannot connect through putty. I was able to connect through putty yesterday. All I did was restart my machine yesterday. So, I am not sure why the connection to the internet is so random.

traceroute
I did a traceroute to msn.com and I was told that
"temporary failure in name resolution"
"Cannot handle 'host' cmdline arg 'msn.com' on position 1 ( argc 1 )"
I also did a netstat -a
Most entries either says listening or connected. I am not exactlly sure what I am to look for though.

I restarted the VMWare DHCP service in my desktop's services. Then, I was able to connect to the internet in Fedora.
I wonder why that would fix it? I am very happy that it does. I would just like to understand what is happening to the Fedora box in VMWare.
Thank you, btw!

I rely don't know i have the same probleme somethimes on my mac with vmware fusion. may be there is a conflict between network cards.
It will be good to make the test with a virtualbox machine and see if it does the same thing,if not it meens that vmware has a problème on some systems with the network process.
THIS IS JUST A MAY BE

I wanted to update the latest information since it may help someone else. Restarting the VMWare DHCP service in windows xp did not fix my issue the next day. So, I took these steps and noticed one thing:
I restarted the DHCP server in VMWare since I could not get onto the internet in Fedora. This did not help this time. So, I went into the system -> network device control and deactivated and then activated my listed NIC card. There was a red x on the 2 icon computers in the top.
Then, I clicked on the the 2 icons listed at the top, signifying network usually, and the 'system eth0' was not selected. So, I selected it. The two green dots appeared with the arrows circling which meant it was looking for an ip.
Then, the icons were gone and there was no more red x on the 2 computer icon network symbol at the top of the screen in Fedora. I still could not connect to the internet though. Next, I restarted the VMWare DHCP service again and tried to hit the internet in Fedora. I still could not hit the internet in Fedora. So, I restarted Fedora. After restart, there was no network connection. So, I chose syseth0 again and the green circles with the arrows appeared indicating that it was trying to get an ip address. Now, I was told that the network has been disconnected. I then went into system -> network device control and the NIC that was listed was in fact disabled. So, I enabled it. Then, I went back to the 2 computer icon symbol at the top for network and chose system eth0. Now, I was connected to the network and the red x was gone from the 2 computer icon symbol. However, I was still not connected to the internet. I tried to restart VMWare NAT service in my windows services. I still could not connect to the internet in Fedora. Now, I disabled and reenabled the NIC card in network device control.
Now, I had to choose system eth0 again on the 2 icon symbol at the top. I still could not connect to the internet.
This is the strange part. I use Trilliam messenger in windows XP. Trillian displayed that a whole bunch of users were signed off and now signed on. Then, at the same time, I could browse the internet in Fedora. So, I am not sure how this relates but it seems like there is something with my windows xp and Fedora both. I can always hit the internet on my pc in windows xp though. This could be coincidental, but I was just checking.
My best guess is that something with my network card and the bridged connection is probably the issue. I did not see this at all when I had a NAT connection in VMWare that is running my Fedora box. I could hit the internet every time with a NAT connection chosen in VMWare But, I have to use bridged for various reasons.
Does anyone know what could be related in windows XP and Fedora through VMWare?
