    which distro for 64bit

alright well im sure its been asked alot, but im looking for a linux. one thats easy to use, has good stability and support community, and i have knowledge in building computers and working with them but never used linux, although tried ubuntu and did not like it much. im looking for something thats similar to windows ,

    pc specs
    amd dual core 3.11ghz
    4gb of ram
    ati 4850 1gb

and let me know what you guys think, i took the distro test and both said that mandriva would be good for me, so ima try that and see how it works out.

ima use it for djing, maybe some games but prolly not not sure yet, and other than that just basic web surfing, burning movies, and just normal tasks.

    Welcome to the forums!

There aren't any distros that are truly similar to windows, but OpenSUSE and Mandriva might be two that some users would consider more windows-like. Fedora and Mint are a couple of other popular choices. In fact, any of the top 10 or so distros found in the Page Hit Ranking list at DistroWatch.com should work on your machine.

Hope it all goes well for you and you have lots of fun running Linux...

You're unlikely to run into stability problems on any of the top 10 most popular distributions. It's more a matter of personal preference than anything at this point. Happy hunting.

Yes, any of those should work, depending on the time period for which you want to know what the top 10 were. Hope you have fun with your new distribution.

Make sure you install Windows first leaving some unallocated space on the drive for Linux, then boot with the Mandriva installation disk and direct the installer to use the free space for Linux. The installer should offer to setup the dual-boot option for you.
