and here I thought ubuntu was the only distro that requires the 'sudo' command. I could have sworn I just read that OpenSUSE does, too. so who all *requres* it? ...

    so who all *requres* it?

    I'm thinking of switching distros.

    None that I know of absolutely require it, as it can be disabled, but any can use sudo, so far as I know.

    As ozar said, some distros come with sudo enabled by default. It is very easy to both enable and disable it. All you need to do is enable the root user by setting a password for it (using sudo passwd root) and then you can either uninstall sudo or just edit the file so that no one but root is inside it.

    ...and of course running man sudo from a terminal will give you lots of good information.
