Linux Server on Home Desktop
Hello All,
Thank you in advance for any replies.
I am quite new to this and definately see linux as a good step for me.
My question is if there is a Linux server OS that would run on the below machine at home. I am very keen to try and get a good understanding of Linux server. I am currently running Windows 7 and am keen to do a dual boot if possible. I do have two HDD's running on my machine.
Machine stats below. Any more information please ask and forgive any ignorance.
Core i5 - 750, 4G Kit DDR3 1600 G.Skill-Ripjaws, Gigabyte GA P55A-UD4P, 1GB 5770 HIS, Seagate SATA 500GB 7200, WD 40GB HDD, Sony Dual Layer DVDRW SATA, Noctua NH-U12P-SE2, Corsair TX750, Thermaltake Armor+ MX, Win 7 Professional
Thanks Again,
Revo

Hi and Welcome !
All Linux distros will work fine in your machine and my preference for server distro is Debian only.
There are a lot of other distros too. CentOS and Ubuntu.
As you are new to Linux, I would suggest you to go for CentOS. Ubuntu Server is good too but it doesn't have Graphical Interface by default. One can install Desktop Environment ( GUI ) easily though.
Check this poll on Fav distro for Server.
You can install as distros as you like in single Hard disk.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

You could also run a virtual server, on your windows box
Then you would not have to reboot, your machine is most likley powerful enough to handling what its going to be doing.... Unless your some how going to be ganking your server... And I would go for Ubuntu Server LTS release, which is 8.04.. but I believe the next release will also be LTS
