My favorite way to learn ;D
OK, so I'm not too experienced with Linux (I know a little of the shell, and 95% of the desktopy stuff), and my favorite way to learn is to build. So guess what? I'm trying to see if I can make my own distro. It'll probably fail horibbibly, but I'm going to give it an honest shot anyways, and I'm hoping for some tips and tricks and pointers. And possibly a guy to guide me through it...
Ummm.... I'm calling it SOS, I guess. I know I'm going to have to start getting a shell all up and runny-like, so any ideas on how to do that would be handy. I've also got a notebook with a few cool ideas and stuff like that. Oh, and I'm really experienced in Python... If that helps at all... I've done a little (LITTLE!) amount of C work and an even littler amount of Assembly work (hardly anything at all)...
Well, any help would be appreciated!

I already knew about LFS, but I my library doesn't have it (not like my card hasn't expired anyways). I might take a look at woof though.
See I'm going for actually making a somewhat functional version of Linux (with a few good differences from most distrobutions), by downloading the kernel, getting the shell going nice, and slapping a DE (or few
) on top of it.

Well, I'm not quite sure how the drivers are stored, but here's my take on how I would like it (this came to me during math class):
%sysroot%/Drivers/bin = Drivers themselves (have been used)
%sysroot%/Drivers/log = Logs and such
%sysroot%/Drivers/cfg = Config files and utilities
%sysroot%/Drivers/etc = Drivers that shouldn't be loaded/ are unused as of yet.

Check out GoboLinux. They do a non-standard filesystem hierarchy. You can look at their code or ask them how they did it.
