which Linux distribution to choose
Hi,
I am Linux newbie, could anyone tell me which distribution to choose as I found many of them over the internet. I will need to use it on day to day basis and I am more concerned on security and networking issue.
I am also looking for a free version downloadable from the internet. Thanks for your suggestions!
Many thanks,
Giz

Welcome to he forums!
Depending on your computer hardware, any of the top 10 or so listed at DistroWatch.com should work fine for you. Check the link in my signature for more information on getting started with Linux. You'll also find a couple of quizzes there that might help you to pick a distro or two.
Hope you will enjoy it.oz

go with mint, it's very very similar to ubuntu. anything that works in ubuntu will work in mint.

I started with Ubuntu which got replaced with Debian and now I'm on CentOS. There's a bit of a learning curve so I'ld go with Ubuntu first; I found it quite easy. Next up would be Debian for stability, Ubuntu is based off of Debian so they are very similar. I'm onto CentOS now to expand my operating envelope!
