Touchscreen - Is it Worth trying Linux?
My brother works for the local govt and just got some Panasonic Toughbooks, CF-29 models. They were used in cop cars. (Yes, I already checked out the HD for anything interesting
) They are neat little laptops. The fist thing that came to mind was "I am going to install Debian."
Then I touched the screen for some reason and noticed the pointed moved! Then I wondered, is there any distro that really handles touch screens well. If so how hard would it be to calibrate and make work properly. After doing some searching I found this page.
I have done some searching and it looks possible but with a lot of work. Since this computer was given to me, I have none of the software/drivers that are on it right now with XP installed and working correctly.
Is it worth trying to get Linux running (Debian preferably) or should I just keep using Windows?

I would hook up a external hardrive first and install grub and boot Linux off of that first. I have not really got into the passive touch screen capabilities of my Amrel Laptops because it aint a big priority for me. I have other stuff that takes up to much of my time as it is. But I Have looked into the EV touchscreen driver for Linux. But Not a priority for me yet. I would probably have to install devx package tools in Puppy Linux to be able to install from source in Puppy first and then get the tarball and see what happens. That driver is not Distro specific. Works in all Linux distros, (when it works)

That is a good idea. I don't have an external HD but will look into getting one. I have wanted one for some time.
