    i believe is linux bug

I then use gparted and see last two partitions has question mark. remove them and repartition in gparted and format. Reboot with CentOS5.2:
fdisk x-e still gives wrong display, but I can use last partition now.

These days (march 2010) I tried a few Linux disk tools not sure which one is trustable. Latest gparted resizes my ext3 partitions crushes my HDD. parted also cannot resize ext3.
So, after your installation don't change partitions.
I use dual booted Xp/Linux. reboot from each other often caues Linux disk problem needs to use fsck to fix. Problem may be tools like ntfs-3g, or similar tools to access ext3 from XP.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

I'm afraid your problem above is not very familiar to me. FYI, I have tried to multi boot my system with XP and 5 others linux flavors at one time and have not encountered this issue. Even with ntfs-3g.

I hope you can discover what is the real problem behind so you can enjoy linux even more

May I ask what particular linux distro you used to dual boot?

If you notice the output from 'e' list the partition types as '05' extended partition entries.
Each logical volume has its own partition table that points to the logical volume and the next extended partition. The last extended partition table will only have a logical volume so the next extended partition will be zero's. The display is correct .

Thanks. I installed ntfs-3g and Ext2 IFS 1.11a, both latest. On my desktop I need none of them and seldom reboot, thus no problem. now I use little of both, hope less error.

Or yeah the display is correct? anyway at the time I cannot format and gparted shows question marks on last two. Thanks for clarify.

You need a newer version of gparted, one that recognizes ext3. I would recommend downloading PartedMagic 4.9 which works with ext3, other linux partition types, even windows NTFS! They wouldn't let me post the site but you could do an online search for it. It has several good tools useful for system recovery or setup.
