No Linux would Install, or install half way on a dual boot with Win 7
Thanks to the moderator and MikeTbob, a problem on one PC was solved yesterday.
Now I've a different problem with the second PC.
Here is some Infor:
Win. 7, Ultimate, 32-bit
Until recently I was able to install Ubuntu 9.04 but could not update to 10.4
Then Mint 8 got installed (but not 7 or 9), also, until problem developed lately.
Now every installation attempt has failed so far.
Mint 8 and Ubuntu 9.04 would load half way then both would stop.
I've tried new discs, using different CD and DVD (Sony, Maxell, RiData, Yuden), they all stop halfway through. I've burned at least a dozen discs so far.
I have an unallocated space on HD (different HD from Win.Os). I've deleted and formatted it several times, to no avail.
Any suggestion on how to solve this in light of the above information? I would appreciate any and all help. Have been trying to fix this for more than a month now.
Thanks in advance.

Could you post your machine's specs? RAM, Disk Space, Graphics Card and Processor.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I just tried to re-install Mint 9. It got to the last stage, 8 and got stuck at 83% for more than an hour. I had to shut it down.
Specs:
Intel E6750
Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R
Video - gForce 8500 gt
Ram - 8GB
A-Data - 4GB
Skill - 4GB
Win 7 Ultimate
Win OS is on separate drive - capacity about 320GB
Linux has an unallocated space of 50 GB
Swap 4 GB > this drive is 640GB
there are 2 additional drives (large external)

You have 8GB of RAM. There is no need to create SWAP Partition. Download 64bit version of Mint or any other Linux distro to make use of all the RAM.
Have you tried to install Mint in other machine using same CD? Try to reburn .iso image at lowest possible speed supported by your CD Burner. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Yes, the the other post I made yesterday which you helped me identify the problem - keyboard got stuck except for Mint menu, the only one that was functional.
I use the same CD to install on this second PC and each time it got stuck in the middle. Last time it was stalled at about 40%, this time it got to 83%
My Win. 7 has 32-bit, that is why I I install Mint 9 the 32-bit equivalent.
I will try 64-bit as you suggested.

I finished downloading Mint 9-64-bit.
Half way through it says there is error 5 - has something to do
with dirty disc, etc. , which cannot be the case since it is freshly
burned. Also, the drive is also clean, etc.
Would it make a difference if I select a difference space on the hard drive?

After trying several flavors of linux, finally I found one that would install - Debian!
Not a perfect installation because some packages could not be installed, but that's the best I got.
Very strange indeed.
Thanks for your help. Considered it solved.
