If you want to learn to programming, there are languages around today that'll stop you from learning all the really bad habits that BASIC would teach you. Learn Perl, learn C++, learn C#, learn PHP, learn Java, learn Python. Don't learn BASIC unless you've got a pressing need.

Which one of those languages should be best for a person who is a beginner at programming?
