    Booting from USB

Ok not sure where to go with this so I went here.

Might be more of a general computer question but here goes...

When setting up Linux to boot from a USB will the computer recognize a media card as a USB boot device? Such as on one of my laptops (a Toshiba satellite with an SD card slot) When I select the boot option USB will it look in the SD slot if thee is nothing in the regular USB port?

    Depends on Laptop/Netbook.

On my Asus EEEPC it recognizes SD boot card.

On My Acer Aspire One ZG5 which has a SD slot. I have to use a USB Adapter for SD Flash as the Acer Aspire One bios does not recognize the SD slot as a boot option but only the USB slots.

If you want to boot from USB there isn't much involved. You do not have to go through all of the guides and how-tos that tell you how to set up a USB live CD. Just install to the USB memory and it will work.

Odd that a ZG5 won't boot from SD. I have the bigger AOD150 and it will boot from SD. Must be mine has a fancier bios.

My Acer Aspire Bios Version Below

    Code:
    # dmidecode -s bios-version
    v0.3305
