I believe simply pressing ENTER after editing that file would put the cursor down one line within the file itself if you haven't saved it yet and haven't exited nano. Sorry if I've misunderstood the question.

    Red face Rephrase

I mean when it prompts me to save what would happen if I had changed some things and pressed the enter button to save instead of cancel

Pressing ENTER after editing and then using CTL-X should save the file along with your edits. I can't think of any reason that saving a file with nano would cause a keyboard/mouse freeze. Maybe someone else knows more and will reply.

I'm fairly certain the freezing is a problem with the graphics card.

Since, what, 9.04, I think, Ubuntu (among other distros) has had trouble with certain integrated Intel graphics cards.

    Try disabling kernel mode setting.

Info on how to do that and other ideas here:

I will try but should this not work what is another possibility?

    More possible workarounds here.

Worst case scenario, you would be stuck with the generic vesa driver (instructions in the above link) until a fix is released.

You could also try different distros and see if another one works better.

I don't think it was the video card but maybe it was thanks to every who helped. I resolved it by reinstalling Ubuntu and using only Ubuntu and lucid partner software. Plus I was downloading torrents into my Host folder so as to save space that was the big problem. Anyone else might have the same problem it isn't a good idea, just use your other OS to download large items.
