    Operating system not found


    Hi all
    I am new in your forum and sorry if i write in wrong section.
    I have new Acer Aspire 5536g with Linpus Linux and want to instal other OS.
    Found old thread with similar problem, but its locked...
    Anyway i do that:
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=512 count=1
    but when i restart notebook (with Win OS cd in drive and with bios settings to boot from cd/dvd first), only message is:
    "Operating system not found"
    Will happy of any help!

    I actually don't know why Asus always installs Linpus Linux without graphical user interface. Nobody want's to use Linpus Linux.

    But what you did is just overwriting your hard drive with zeros and then you shouldn't wonder why no operating system is found.
    To boot from your CD you need to change the boot order in your BIOS.

    Actually, only the MBR is overwritten, not the whole harddisk.
    However, your problem doesn't have anything to do with linux, you only have a linux OS on your PC that cannot be booted (since you have overwritten the MBR). If your PC doesn't boot with the CD inserted, either your BIOS Settings are wrong or something with the CD is wrong (this can't be the reason if your Windows CD is an original one, of course).

    Have you tested same CD in any other machine? Are you sure that CD/DVD Drive has been set as First Boot Device in BIOS?
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Disk is checked and BIOS settings are correct, but the result is the same.
    Then i make bootable usb flash drive and its done... for now - instalation still in progress.
