Basic Wireless Question
I'm pretty new to OpenSuse so this is probably an extremely basic question.
I no longer have access to wired internet, so I must use wireless. I have a USB WLAN adapter (Linksys). When I type in the command "lsusb", it recognizes the Linksys adapter, and when I look at the hardware information, it lists the WLAN adapater. My question is now: how do I connect to a network? I've searched around for a while and can only find troubleshooting information, not basic instructions.
Thanks,
Peter

I'm not the wireless pro on these boards... but it looks good so far!

One thing was missing, though.
Open a terminal, and execute these two commands:
Post back the results.Code:ifconfig -a iwconfig

Okay here are the results. I'm also thinking my wireless is OK, but after searching around, I could not find how to actually use the card to search for networks or to connect. Sorry again, I'm incredibly new at Linux.

Great! Your wireless is detected! And ready to go!

Are you running either GNOME or KDE? If so, you should have Network Manager in the top right corner of your desktop (or KNetwork).
You should be able to configure your wireless connection from there.
Give it a go.
So long as you know the Network name and whatever encryption key is needed, you should be good to go.Jay

Just for the sake of those looking at this thread, can you tell us what happened to make it work?

I went to Yast > Network Settings
Under Network Setup Method, I check User Controlled with NetworkManager
That seemed to do the trick.

Outstanding!
Glad you got it going!
