Go to distrowatch.com and read up on the different distros. Your system has the ram to run pretty much any distro, but some may not like specific hardware. The best thing to do is to select several distro's that appeal to you and download a live dvd to try out. If you like it and it plays nice with your hardware, then do an install. ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mint, Fedora, open Suse, PClinuxOS, and Mandriva are all popular distro's for newbies.
Welcome to the forum and have fun.

At distrowatch.com, one of the things you can search for is linux versions by country of origin. You could specify Portugal, Brazil, Spain, or other Portugese or Spanish speaking countries. Brazil and Spain are both active in producing linux distro's.
