Looking for a newb friendly distro...
...but not just any kind of distro. Im talking about a text based distro where I will be able to write text only documents on a black screen as well as save them. I do not wish to run internet or anything else, just a text editor and a directory.

any distro can do this
if you are talking about distros that only do this by default, debian net install, ubuntu server, arch linux, gentoo, centos net install...the list goes on and on

Well I tried out some linux distros as "bare bones" and I seem to have found somewhat what I want...
It seems to me that there is a specific linux software that I was looking for:
Midnight Commander.
What I liked about it was it gave me an accurate display of available directories, quick file opening, and a simple short cut to a very simple text editor (Shift + F4)
Unfortunately slax (which was the only distro that comes with this by default that I tested today) seems to be slow at boot-up (5-6 minutes for some reason =()
What I really want is a linux that I can boot-up quick to command line and run MC/search for bits of info in text files.

Try TinyCore, specifically their microcore option, which is about a 7 MB console only distro. I don't believe mc comes installed by default, but you can certainly install it easily enough.
Tiny Core Linux, Micro Core Linux, 10MB Linux GUI Desktop, Live, Frugal, Extendable
