What file manager are you using in CentOS. I won't be of much help because I am a apt kind of guy with some puppy thrown in for good measure. Not a rpm runner.

That being said. Maybe if you are running thunar.

Hope it helps ya. Rubberman is pretty good with CENTOS but won't be in till tomorrow (maybe) or Monday. Edit: My bad. He might see this tonight.

ffmpeg is segfaulting. How did you install it? Which version of CentOS are you running?

Updating ffmpeg to a newer version may resolve the problem.

The people here at LF are nice, but never, NEVER, *NEVER* give your root password to someone you dont know.
(Apart from good practices like: a) no direct root access, b) authorized keys for users)

Updating centos is done with yum
    Code:
    yum update

i'm not going to update Centos, i need to update ffmpeg, because technical staff of my hosting provider reinstalled it and then it didn't work..Maybe they installed in another path..I don't know maybe the wrong version, maybe corrupted binaries, maybe, maybe and maybe.. Only truth is i can't use ffmpeg to create thumbnails, but i managed it before..I think my host provider used SVN for that..

I just checked the centos standard and EPEL repo.
ffmpeg is not in there, that's probably why your provider installed it for you.

    You mentioned svn.
So they compiled and installed ffmpeg from source on your box?
    Imho, this is.. unprofessional.
    They should have packaged it

Anyway, I dont know the contract details:
    1) Did they install ffmpeg only on your request as a one shot solution?
If so, is there some kind of service level agreement to keep it in a functional state?

Kind of hindsight, I know: But software needs maintenance.
In the best case the distribution (centos/redhat/debian) does it for you.
If you need additional software, then *someone* needs to take care.

Anyway, in that case you need to open an additional request for them to fix that.

    2) Is ffmpeg part of their standard offer?
Then you can write some nice mails first, and became a bit more nasty in the follow ups
You must always face the curtain with a bow.

Firstly thanks for your response, it was installed but i wanted upgrade with x264 support, i even paid for it, and then i couldn't generate thumbnails, look at my first post every details version etc, stated above.I felt it was unprofessional so i agree with you.
I have a pending ticket them and i sent all the logs to them maybe they will take care about it.
I'm very nasty about follow ups, everyone knows me in their chat support, or every administrator u know, some says i remember u from yesterday u had problems with FFmpeg, and i say hell yeah i still have problems. And endless tickets pouring down =) I'm doing just as u say, but if their technical stuff doesn't solve my problem then here comes an important question. WHO?

    Let's make sure it's not a package.

What does the output of this show?
    Code:
    rpm -qa | grep ffmpeg
ffmpeg is available via the 3rd party rpmfusion. This is a 3rd party repo, but probably one of the more trusted 3rd party repos for Centos/RHEL/Fedora.

    To enable
    Code:
    su -c 'rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/el/updates/testing/5/i386/rpmfusion-free-release-5-0.1.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/el/updates/testing/5/i386/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-5-0.1.noarch.rpm'
    Install ffmpeg
    Code:
    su -c 'yum install ffmpeg'
You'll want to remove the previous ffmpeg before doing this. Unfortunately, if it was installed from source and not packaged, this could be difficult to fully do.
