Hello, i feel like a retard
Hello,
So i don't know if you guys get this alot here but today i bought a linux vps for my runescape private server and i was thinking oh this won't be a hassle il have my server up in a hour or 2 but i was wrong.
7 hours later i still didn't have it up so i asked my host to do some stuff for me and he did he installed Jdk/Java/No-ip/Winrar so after that i was like
Then came the most **** part of everything but i didn't know this yet so i was looking how to run my server on linux and on a tutorial it said i'd have to make a .sh file and do some other stuff with chmod 3 hours later i end up here because i'm seriously having a mental brakedown because nothing freaking works and my host doesn't understand that i want to execute a run.sh so my rsps is online.
Please will someone help me.
Best regards Sohail.
UPDATE i got it to execute but now i get this what does it mean?
Code:root@host:~/Desktop/Same_source# sh run.sh Usage: java [-options] class [args...] (to execute a class) or java [-options] -jar jarfile [args...] (to execute a jar file) where options include: -d32 use a 32-bit data model if available -d64 use a 64-bit data model if available -client to select the "client" VM -server to select the "server" VM -cacao to select the "cacao" VM -zero to select the "zero" VM -hotspot is a synonym for the "client" VM [deprecated] The default VM is server, because you are running on a server-class machine. -cp <class search path of directories and zip/jar files> -classpath <class search path of directories and zip/jar files> A : separated list of directories, JAR archives, and ZIP archives to search for class files. -D<name>=<value> set a system property -verbose[:class|gc|jni] enable verbose output -version print product version and exit -version:<value> require the specified version to run -showversion print product version and continue -jre-restrict-search | -jre-no-restrict-search include/exclude user private JREs in the version search -? -help print this help message -X print help on non-standard options -ea[:<packagename>...|:<classname>] -enableassertions[:<packagename>...|:<classname>] enable assertions with specified granularity -da[:<packagename>...|:<classname>] -disableassertions[:<packagename>...|:<classname>] disable assertions with specified granularity -esa | -enablesystemassertions enable system assertions -dsa | -disablesystemassertions disable system assertions -agentlib:<libname>[=<options>] load native agent library <libname>, e.g. -agentlib:hprof see also, -agentlib:jdwp=help and -agentlib:hprof=help -agentpath:<pathname>[=<options>] load native agent library by full pathname -javaagent:<jarpath>[=<options>] load Java programming language agent, see java.lang.instrument -splash:<imagepath> show splash screen with specified image

Hello and Welcome.
Calm down, close your eyes, take a deep breath and just think of something nice for 2 minutes.
Now, feel better?
I think one of the reasons you aren't getting any responses is because you aren't clearly explaining what it is you want to accomplish.
Can you post the link to the tutorial so that we know what you are doing?Last edited by MikeTbob; 12-09-2010 at 01:23 AM. Reason: Typo

I believe there is also some question as to the legality, or at least ethics, of running a runescape private server.

something isn't right about those scripts you are executing, that is why it is printing the java help output, you have an invalid java command in there somewhere
it would be helpful if you just posted the contents of those scripts, and please use the code tags

Hey guys i'm actually quite far with this ive got everything working i'm just stuck on 2 things now.
-What kind of vnc viewer type of program would work with a linux vps since i get this error codebut i can connect with putty.Code:Connection refused (10061)
-How can you switch a \ to a / in ssh?

what do you mean how do you switch a \ to a /?
in order to use VNC, you will need to have an X server installed and configured on the server, and a vnc server running, what do you need VNC for? it is remote server, SSH should be enough
alternatively, you could install xvfb which is x virtual framebuffer, you can connect a vnc server to that
