    Installing Ubunto

Is there a general how to for installing?
I am wanting to install it on an older laptop and a question I also have is how to get it so it picks up the wifi or is Linux so on top of things that those drivers are already included?

    Many thanks in advance,
    MPenney

Welcome to linux and to the forums. Not the answer you're looking for, but it depends. Depending on your exact hardware and the age of the machine, it may or may not have the right drivers in the kernal. The best way to find out your answer is to go to distrowatch.com and download several live distro's and try them out to see what works with your hardware.

    Hiya!
How old is the machine? If it has low RAM, less than 500MB...you might want to try a lighter distro. You can see this poll for a decent look at older machines with lightweight distros.

You can install from the CD/DVD and it will format the HD for you if you tell it to.
Regarding the wireless card, it really depends on which chipset it has and you can usually assume the card will work, if it works while using the LiveCD before you install to the HD.

Don't try to install it with the KDE or Gnome desktops unless system RAM is >512MB, as a suggestion. And see below:

Ubuntu: Ubuntu Geek - Ubuntu Tutorials,Howto's,Tips and Tricks

Download StorkOS 9 for Linux - Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, with Fluxbox - Softpedia
