After re-boot cant access whm or sites

    OK complete newbie to linux.

I have a VPS - and I was trying to install gd support for php on to it. Once I had done this I had a 500 Server Error. With the following errors in the log

[Sun Dec 12 07:34:29 2010] [error] [client] SoftException in Application.cpp:574: Could not execute script "/home/perfectp/public_html/phptest.php"
[Sun Dec 12 07:34:29 2010] [error] [client] Caused by SystemException in API_Linux.cpp:444: execve() for program "/usr/bin/php" failed: No such file or directory
[Sun Dec 12 07:34:29 2010] [error] [client] Premature end of script headers: phptest.php
[Sun Dec 12 07:34:29 2010] [error] [client] File does not exist: /home/perfectp/public_html/sys_cpanel, referer:

So I tried a graceful reboot and a reboot through ssh - and now I cant access whm or any of the website. I still have access via ssh. When I log in I get the following errors

Last login: Sun Dec 12 11:26:02 2010 from
-bash: /usr/bin/id: No such file or directory
-bash: [: =: unary operator expected
    -bash: whoami: command not found
    -bash: mesg: command not found
    -bash: dircolors: command not found
I have been working on it for hours - and its driving me insane.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

do you get a shell so you can type commands in ?

what user do you use to connect via ssh ?

can you not get support from you hosting company?

I had the same problem after trying to install phpmyadmin on my cPanel server. I was able to fix the problem by using easyApache to recompile Apache and PHP. If you have it, just run
    and follow the interactive prompts.
