    internet and Other Issues

    Hi,

I am a LINUX newbie using Ubuntu. I love it so far but I am having issues.

I cannot connect to the wireless network that I am using with my other Windows PC. The problem in my opinion is that the wireless device I use isn't operating. No light comes on the device. I am not sure how to "find hardware" with Ubuntu. Could someone help me?

    John

    Welcome to LF PrinceofCarlsbad!

Can you please post the output of the commands as asked here.

If you have access to an internet cable, please try to make a complete update of your Ubuntu if you haven't yet.

After which you can try to go to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers.

I think I did what that thread wanted. Output stuff below.

I don't see System > Administration > Hardware Drivers. There is no Hardware Drivers choice for me.

    Code:
    lspci
    Code:
    lsusb
    Code:
    ifconfig
    Code:
    lsmod

    Better post the output of
    Code:
    ifconfig -a
    instead for just
    Code:
    ifconfig
because the device might be down.

Keep in mind that I am still a newbie but I think I got all the requested information. If I am not doing this right, let me know.

    Below are the following:

    lspci

    lsusb

    ifconfig

    lsmod

    ifconfig -a

    ifconfig

To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo <command>".
    See "man sudo_root" for details.

    Code:
    jm@jm-VT8363:~$ lspci

This is what I got when I did dmesg |grep -i firmware

To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo <command>".
    See "man sudo_root" for details.

Your wireless card is not detected. Which wireless card do you have and is it connected properly? It doesn't appear in lspci oder lsusb so it seems to be unconnected or damaged.
