Standby does not work

[argh]

hi,
i'm new to linux and i have the following problem:
i am running ubuntu server edition 10.10 on a VIA EPIA SP13000.
the system won't resume properly from suspend. all i get is the blinking textcursor.
it works fine on debian lenny and on ubuntu desktop edition on a live cd.
hope someone can help me. thanks in advance.
