[SOLVED] nvidia cards

Hey everyone, I am new to linux just installed it yesterday and im really liking it so far, however i am really struggling to isntall my graphics drive, i have looked at bunch of tutorials i just cant figure out how to shut down the x server none of the commands work. thanks for the help.

It would help to know what distro you are running, as process of killing the desktop can range from distro to distro. If you are running the latest Ubuntu, simply drop to TTY 2 by hitting your CTRL + ALT + F2 keys.

After you have logged in, issue the following command:

sudo killall gdm-binary

After you have done that, you can cd into the directory where you downloaded your NVIDIA drivers and run the executable from there.

Let us know how you get on from there.

On a side note, if you have Ubuntu, they have an "Additional Drivers" program that will download and install the drivers for your NVIDIA card for you.

yaaaaaaaa ur awsome! got it working and got my game to work thanks dude i new it was something simple lol. its just one of those things lol
