The best applications for a multi-user remote desktop solution?

    Hi there,

I am about to begin a project to support a training requirement where up to eight students need to have remote access via a browser to some centrally hosted equipment. Having never done this, I would appreciate some advice on the best way to approach this using open source software.

I am currently considering using VMware, but am worried this is over engineering the solution. Any feedback on how best to deliver the requirement and what distro to use would be appreciated.

    My needs are as follows:
A single server utilizing open source and offering
    • A public IP address for remote access
    • A private IP address for access to on site equipment
    • Eight separate login sessions

Each login sessions each using the following applications
    • Firefox
    • Java
    • EasyFTP Server
    • PuTTY
    • Remote Desktop application such as TightVNC
    • Open Office Calc
    • Open Office Writer

Please let me know if you need any more information and thanks in advance for your help with this

    Hi,

ShowMyPC: Remote Support, Desktop Sharing, Access Remote PC Free, Web Conferencing

Check this, you may able to show your desktop, and students can try their stuff on local boxes, for putty, you may have to create their logins.

    HTH.

    Thanks Sanjeev,

That looks like it will be useful as well. However, I also need the students to log in with their own sessions so they can simultaneously access equipment independantly - Is there anything else I should be looking at?

    Thanks again
