can't get on the internet
Hi my name is Ruth. I live in the Midwest and I joined this group to get help with my computer. I am clueless on how to use Ubuntu Linux. I'm slowly trying to learn because right now I can't get on the internet and I don't know why. I'm hoping someone will be able to help me or maybe I'll find what on need on this forum.
Any suggestions on books I can read?
Help! I can't live without my internet!

Hello and welcome!
Most people just install Linux, then start using it, and they learn as they go.
You can check these troubleshooting links to see if they might help get your internet connection up and working:
https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/interne...eshooting.html
https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/interne...-internet.html
https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/intern...-wireless.html
https://help.ubuntu.com/9.10/interne...oting-lan.html
As for books, they all become outdated quickly since new releases come out every 6 months or so, but you could take a look at some book options here:
Ubuntu 10.10: Booksoz

code 139

If synaptic will connect to the repository, try downloading Firefox again, or Chrome, or another browser of your choice. It sounds like the firefox file didn't install properly.
