    New installation, internet troubles.

Just installed umbuntu onto my laptop and got connected to the net however when in a browser the net is poor. It takes ages to load pages on forums, eBay and hotmail etc. Often says failed connection. The wireless connection is good, my other laptop works fine with windows. I have tried FireFox and Chrome. Could it be a firewall issue? Any other suggestions?

Any advice? Is this the right place to post? It only happens when on the net. It seems like I often have to double or multiple click a link for it to go fast. Otherwise it just sits there alternating between connecting and waiting. Please help.

Since no one else is answering, I'll throw in a guess. I haven't had this problem, but I have heard others that had driver issues complain of similar sypmtoms. Make sure you have the proper driver for your card installed, and that there aren't two or more drivers fighting for control. Maybe someone who is more knowledgeable will be able to give you better or more specific advice.

Might as well post your system specs and which distro, list the things you've tried or possibly things that you changed that might have caused this too.

It could be IPV6 causing the issue as some network hardware doesn't handle it very well. In Ubuntu you can disable IPV6 using the NetworkManager. You can also disable IPV6 in Firefox by going to about:config and filtering on IPV6 and setting network.dns.disableIPv6 to true.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
