    project Grandfather

    Hello everyone,
This might be a little strange request, but... here's what i want to do:

My grandfather really loves music. But his stereo broke, and he doesn't what to buy a new one, but still would like to listen to his music (and a lot more). I have a unused desktop and i would like to build/configure him (whom you could almost call a techno-fob), the easiest to use media system.

It should be easy: push the button to start the "thing", then select the music and voila.

I know this could be accomplished by just auto-starting some media-player when the OS loads, but i was wondering.... is there an easier way ?

So i am asking you: what is the most "intuitive" or "natural-feel" distribution out there? one that would be the easiest to use for him? Do you have any recommendation for the media player ?

    Thank you in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Fedora, Mandriva, Mint, OpenSuse, and those distros in the *buntu family (not necessarily in that order) are probably about as easy to use as any, for new Linux users. You can check DistroWatch.com to see how they rate on their hits list chart. As for media players, you can find some options that might suit your needs listed here:

Audio/CD Players | Linux App Finder

Video/DVD Players | Linux App Finder

If you find something you want to try, keep in mind that it's usually best to use the default package tool for your distro to install it.

    Good luck with your project.
