Can I make Linux driven media player show cover art and HTML?

I would like to extend a, media player Syvio X9.

My overall goal for this mediaplayer:
1: Be able to browse content either on internal HDD or pc in network in a cover art fashion.
2: I would like the Syvio to understand and play various playlists I have stored on home network.

    Here are the syvio spec:
    Operating system Linux+AP
    Processor RDT1073DD
    Memory DDR2*1Gbit
    Flah Nandflash*2Gbit
    Storage: 3.5" HDD

My problem is that the GUI is old fashioned and not at all user friendly. Other mediaplayers like NMT based popcorn etc have a great userinterface with fancy coverbrowsing for films and music. It is my understanding that popcorn and yamj etc uses html to browse coverart. Which turns using a mediaplayer to a joy rather then pain. Syvio x9 looks like something from the DOS age.

To illustrate the difference in GUI take a look at these pics below:

    Standard Syvio x9 GUI:

As you see from the pic above it does work but no more then just barely.
What I would like to able to do is to browse amongst movies and music in an easy cover arts like style like them pic below.

    Fancy cover art music browsing:

    Fancy coverart browsing movies:

So one would think that the box running a Linux distro would be able to read valuable info like html and m3u playlists?

I found this in the manual for the Syvio X9.

The syvio x9 is a system, it consist of operating system (Linux+AP) and application
    software (BT_SAMBA).
The operating system install in the 256MB Nandflash; and application software will
install on HDD of the syvio x9.
So as long as the Syvio X9 runs linux there should be possible to extend?
What I mean is that there sure must be a way to make to operating system in the Syvio browser and display html, playlist etc?

After all there are dozens of others media players that do this every day, surely there must be a way to force the syvio X9 to also accept playlists and coverart via html?

I understand this can be a tricky one, but I will happily recive any and all tips that you might have. If it is not a tip more a loose thought or idea on how one can go on in order to achieve this. Surely jailbraking, dvd ripping and all that other stuff we take for granted was not done overnight. But if we first get the snowball rolling we might just end up with something usable.

There is really no one that have experiance from mediaplayers around this forum?

Come on it is running Linux. One will assume the mediaplayer will act/react in a rather traditional way. Surely there must be a way to force both rendering of HTML and playback of various playlists?

The system is allrady made ready to extend it says so in manual. Ok so the Savio people was thinking og samba and bit torrent for extensions but as long as the system is ready for extensions I belive there should be a way to make redering of HTML at least.

Btw the manual also states this:

    Web services:YouTube, Picasa
So as long as it will manage to show pictures from picasa and videos from youtube this can't be impossible.

But I need some clever minds to point me in the right direction here. Maybe some Linux Gurus know how this can be done, or know where I should start or try out?
