    As a guess I'd say your environment variable CHEMDIR is set to "../." which represents the parent directory.

    A little googling makes me think you are part of the Science and Technology Facilities Council in the UK and this detail is part of their setup.

    Hi and Welcome !

    It's an environment variable as suggested by kakariko81280 already. I would suggest you to check linuxcommand.org to know better about Terminal and Linux commands.
    It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
