Which Linux distro are you using? Have you tried to right click on Panel and add Applets?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

You might have to reinstall since you deleted those folders. Can't say much without knowing your distro though.

i am using Linpus Linux the only reason i deleted the folder was i read on another forum that when you reboot the netbook it forces the netbook to create a new folder which fixes the problem and gets the Network Center folder working again, i have had to do that before and it worked but sadly not this time.
When i right click it doesn't do anything on the star/sun shape, and when i right click anywhere else it brings up loads of options (similar in windows when you click start)

I've never really used Linpus so this is a shot in the dark. I'm wondering if you have somehow enabled an advanced mode - which you could do (even accidentally with a bit of effort) on the Xandros that came with my original eeepc.
Try hitting Alt-F2 to open the run program panel and type in xfce-setting-show to bring up the desktops control panel. There may be an option in there to switch simple mode back on againIf we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)

Hi, Yea i did switch it to an advanced mode and it worked fine for a while then suddemly i lost the toolbar and had it replaced with the grey star/sun shape. When i take the advanced mode off and right click on the star/sun shape nothing happens then i need to put the advanced mode back on to select settings and what not...
Think it could be an ebay job!!!!!! lol

lol. I don't think we are there just yet!
When you left click, one of the options should be Applications, Click that and then Settings and the XFCE 4 Settings Manager (based on xubuntu may be worded differently in Linpus). One of the options in there should be called Panel. Open that and then click the + button to add a new panel.
Once you have that set up and positioned how you want it, we can go ahead and add the items you need to it.If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)

ok only thing i could find was a Panel Manager where there is a plus and minus sign and options for me to position the taskbar where I want it etc...

That's the one. Do you see a Panel1 in a drop down list? If not click the + to create one and use the options to position how you want it.
Then close the Panel Manager and right click on the panel. There should be an option called add to panel. Under here you can explore to find the things that you want on the panel. To remove an item, right click it and select remove.
You can even add multiple panel if you wish.If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
