[SOLVED] Good KDE/Xfce option
Hi all!
I am not quite a newbie (I have used Linux on and off since around 2000, (YIKES!!) and I have my laptop that is a full time Linux box. (My desktop system which is for gaming is still a windows box). Anyways, I have been using Ubuntu for about a year now, and while it is a wonderful system, I am getting restless to try something new. The one thing I dislike about Ubuntu is that I really don't like Gnome (personal preference, I can see why some like it). So I was wondering what would be a good Distribution(s) that I can download and play with so see what KDE has done in the last year and perhaps play with Xfce. I have run SUSE and Ubuntu in the past.

Well. openSUSE 11.4 and the latest Simply Mepis immediately spring to mind. Can't think what brought openSUSE to mind

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

You can check for Linux Mint Gnome (with visible modifications) or even Mint KDE, wonderful is the word.

Since you like Ubuntu, just not Gnome, why not give Xubuntu or Kubuntu a try. While you are at it, try Lubuntu also. You can go to distrowatch.com and do a search on desktop environments. They have the ones you mentioned, plus a whole lot more. You can then pick a distro that has the desktop you want.

Well, I think I will be throwing my install behind openSUSE, just deciding on 11.4 or tumbleweed
