    I was wondering if I make a live usb of say fedora or kubuntu, will I be able to save all my work ?

    I would say yes. You can save your work on the same USB your using assuming that it has enough space for you to save at.

    It is possible, but you have to configure it to have persistent storage, so you may need to partition it, so that the /home directory is mounted on the other partition, which would be writable.
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

    So do you know how I should partition it ? Do I need to do it on another OS ? And how much persistent storage should I give it? (I'm using a 16gb flash drive)

    A flash drive is partitioned just like any drive, using the fdisk command. I would recommend 2-4GB for the OS, 1GB for swap, and the rest for data. Use the Linux partition types.
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
