Amorak not working

please guys, don't give me other threads to read Amorak FAQ or stuff like that, I have just spent nearly 4 hours doing just that and my nerves are a little tattered this is my last resort.

Installed amorak after hearing that it is one of the better music players but it doesn't play MP3s, it searched for the right plug in and couldn't find it. I followed a link to try and install them and it just tried and possibly succeeded in installing some microsoft something or other that I now don't know what is or where it is to get rid of it.

Can someone help me with this please, I don't really understand the principles involved with plugins and where to find them. And as you can see I don't really know what detail to give either, so I await info requests.

A reboot worked? Must have been that "microsoft something or other" that you installed...

I know, it's a little disconcerting isn't it, the thing is I don't think it installed, I couldn't click the ok it gave me.

Is there a way I can check what that was in the logs or something, that would be an excellent thing for me to learn.
