since the latest kernals have come out my machine boots fine in a live cd but, after boot i lose my display.
dc5850 hp compaq
nvidia 9500...

latest kernal, no display
the mobo i am using has onboard video, could the os be reading that and not see my card?
i thought of that last night.

One way to find out
try connecting your display to the display port. If you can see then it will most likely be so, you should be able to tell linux to use the other adapter then.

[solved]
at the end of the grub listing i used nomodeset and it got back in, and than i activated the nvidia driver and now i am good to go.
