Ubuntu Installation ERROR: hd0 out of disk. Grub Rescue
Hello.
I have been a windows user since forever and finally decided to try ubuntu. However, after doing a clean install with a livecd I am stuck at a black screen prompt that simply says:
GRUB loading.
error: hd0 out of disk
grub rescue>
That's it. I can't do anything else. I thought linux was suppose to be simple and easy to use which was why I chose to switch in the first place. I have googled and googled with no solutions in the end.
Please help

Do you have any other operating system on the computer?
Which version of Ubuntu do you have, 11.04?
Did you select to install the Ubuntu Grub bootloader to the master boot record? the root partition? somewhere else?
If you are in fact using Ubuntu 11.04, go to Section 8 at the Ubuntu site below:

1. I don't have any other OS installed. I did have windows 7 but I wiped that off to get ubuntu.
2. Those steps don't work. When I hold down the shift, it momentarily pauses and doesn't do anything. I've tried esc and it just eventually takes me back there.

Hello,
How do i exactly go on to do that? Is there a separate cd I must download? Because as of now, my other laptop is not usable since it's stuck on that page.
Thanks

How to reinstall Grub2 is explained in detail in Section 12 of the link I posted. It gives several different methods to do it. You didn't indicate which version of Ubuntu you have. Is it 11.04, the most recent?

Your Grub installation failed. Your bootinfoscript output shows Syslinux in the master boot record of sda and sda1 (Ubuntu partition) doesn't have the Grub boot files. Looks like there were a lot of problems in this regard. Try reinstalling Grub with the methods from the link above.

There is a lot of stuff in the log about file system errors.
I would reinstall Ubuntu, making sure to allow it to
format the hard drive and check for errors before installing.
