Hi - I believe the info you seek is below the OS. The OS is interested in logical drives and therefore does not need to know about particular hardware schemes used. I believe the info can be gotten from a BIOS command - haven't done that kind of stuff for a while.

I think you can access such information with lshw.
Code:$ sudo lshw -class disk
