Install GCC without internet connection
I can't connect my Fedora 16 Desktop to the internet to do a regular install, so I had to get the .tar.bz2 on it another way. Is there an easy "How To" install GCC on your pc because the version here at the gnu site seems to go in one eye and out the other. Or maybe there's a yum install for a local file? I've developed on Windows & Linux, and used the apt-get on my home desktop, but not so much Linux System Administration.

You should try to install from the RPM file, and you'll need several extra packages that the gcc package depends upon. How did you do the original Fedora install? If you installed from DVD all the files you need should be on there. The live cd version is a cut-down version so it might not have all the files you need, and the network install version copies all the files from the internet anyway.
If you can find the packages on the DVD, you should be able to install them with the rpm tool - or even wth yum.Linux user #126863 - see http://linuxcounter.net/

The GCC suite should be on your installation CD/DVD disc(s) as one or more .rpm files. Look for a directory called "packages". Then, use YUM to install them.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

The live version was used for the install (by a coworker that left, I'm taking over the workstation). Would I be able to burn the full copy and use it to install all necessary packages? Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it.
