I am using windows. I play Team Fortress 2 and i have problem with one of lunix files called ".bz2" many of new maps use they files as ".bz2" to save on space bifore the files were ".bsp". But now its changed from "mapname.bsp" to "mapname.bsp.bz2" and I cant use this maps. other players can use them with out doing anything and when the download finished it says

    "coulden't CRC maps/mapname.bsp.bz2 Disconecting"

    Hello and Welcome!

First, .bz2 is just a file compression format. Often used by Linux, but not only by Linux.
I haven't used Windows in the last few years, so I can't say for sure if this will work... but I believe that there are a number of Windows tools that you can use for this.
Again, can't confirm, or help with error messages. But give these a try:
    • winrar
    • Winzip
    • 7-zip

Try those. If not, there are other tools that you can use. The file extension is nothing more than a compression format, so if those don't work, ask about them on a Windows help forum, as there are sure to be be a few members that have come across that very same question.

I have no idea about Team Fortress 2.

But the error doesnt say "couldnt read" or "wrong file format".
It says "couldn't CRC maps/mapname.bsp.bz2 Disconecting", which means the checksum test failed.

This might be, that either side cant understand bz2 OR the file is simply corrupted and needs to be replaced.

You can check yourself if the file is corrupted by unpacking it with one of the tools jayd512 mentioned.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.

well the bad part is thats after they get about 50% instaled this error comes up and then the file isent saved.
But i gues your might be wright because i just heared admin talking something about viruses.
(i only saw part of the chat so i dont know whats infected by viruses but that might be the maps)

oh and sorry if i waisted your time

    Not a waste of time!
We're just giving our two cents.
    BTW... I don't play, either.
For what it's worth, a corrupted file doesn't always mean that it's infected... it just might need to be downloaded and un-packed again.
When I did run Windows, WinZip worked for some files, while winrar worked for others.

So give them all a shot. And iff that fails, try a different download source.
