How can I completely erase and remove linux to start fresh?
Well I currently have Ubuntu (I'm not sure which version), and it is now completely unresponsive and it doesn't even start up.
I dual boot windows and ubuntu. I want to completely erase the linux partition. I don't have a windows cd and I don't want to touch the windows partition. Is this possible?
What distribution would be good for a beginner? I might just go back to Ubuntu but it was having problems with my netbook.
Please help me.
Thanks you. Happy new years.

What error messages are you seeing when it fails to boot? They may be important, before you move on to another Linux install.
Yes. Just about any modern Linux distro will happily preserve your Windows partition and install a bootloader that will boot both Windows and Linux (provided you do not delete the windows partition during the install).I dual boot windows and ubuntu. What is the make/model of your netbook? Perhaps others here have the same (or similar) netbook and can suggest something from good experience. Also, maybe the most current release of Ubuntu would be what you need/want. If I were to suggest a distro, it would be Fedora, as they are pretty good with new hardware and have lots of software available via their (and 3rd party) repositories, but I don't have a netbook...What distribution would be good for a beginner? I have a Asus EEE PC model 1005PEB and it runs great except for the some brightness adjustment issues.
The problem I have been having with Ubuntu is that I was trying to upgrade to the latest version (which I believe many people are having problems with, I think it's 11.04), and while it was upgrading, I shut my computer off by mistake. When I tried to start it up in linux, it got stuck on "Enabling additional executable binary formats binfmt-support [OK]"
What does that mean? And thank you for your response.

To be honest... you hit a snag when the shutdown occurred during the upgrade... that messed up the process.
That will happen no matter what OS is running.
So, if you were happy with Ubuntu, I'd say go ahead and just install it again.
BTW, the newest version is 11.10.

Yeah I guess I'll just have to reinstall it with the live cd. Have you heard anything about people having problems with the new version?
