    Alsa + hdmi

    Hi All,

I'm quickly leaving Ubuntu for Bodhi but there is really one thing holding me back from fully making the switch....this being Bodhi doesn't use the same sound management system as Ubuntu and I honestly don't know why because the default one for Ubuntu is so functional (switching between cards, changing to HDMI, etc...).

So unfortunately I'm going to have to go "old school" and manually setup a file in my asound and then hopefully make an audo detect script that checks to see if HDMI cord is plugged in and if it is to auto play through my stereo (HDMI out)

I've never successfully set up an asound but this time I'm dedicated, so....here it goes:

    Here is my aplay -L

    Code:
    aplay -L
    null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
    default:CARD=Intel
        HDA Intel, STAC92xx Analog
        Default Audio Device
    front:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
        HDA Intel, STAC92xx Analog
        Front speakers
    surround40:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
        HDA Intel, STAC92xx Analog
4.0 Surround output to Front and Rear speakers
    surround41:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
        HDA Intel, STAC92xx Analog
4.1 Surround output to Front, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
    surround50:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
        HDA Intel, STAC92xx Analog
5.0 Surround output to Front, Center and Rear speakers
    surround51:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
        HDA Intel, STAC92xx Analog
5.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
    surround71:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
        HDA Intel, STAC92xx Analog
7.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Side, Rear and Woofer speakers
    hdmi:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
        HDA Intel, HDMI 0
        HDMI Audio Output
I want 5.1 sound out of the HDMI, anyone have something similar set up through manually writing the asoundrc script? Thanks

Edit: Needs to work with everything including XBMC and Flash, thanks again
