    Both are pagers, but they are different tools.
    less has a few more features that more.

    less gives you more functionality than more does. That's probably why it's called "less". The main improvement is that with less you can go backwards as well as forwards.

    Actually less is more but here is the difference.
    Code:
    ls | more
    With more you can scroll through output using the space bar to see page by page and the enter key to view line by line.
    Code:
    ls | less
    But less is better it allows you to scroll through output making it more of a document, it gives a screen false you can type q to get out of there.

    Thanks, I got into the habit of always using more but I might try and break those habits and try less more often.

    It's an accident of history. more came first, back in the mists of time.
    When someone came up with improvements, he couldn't name it "better"
    so chose the more whimsical name. UNIX is full of weird names.
