There a lot of options to install packages supporting .zip archive. You can install zip and uzip or p7zip.

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install p7zip
I would suggest you to try Synaptic Package Manager in Mint. Search zip/uzip and p7zip in Synaptic, go through descriptions and install whichever you like.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
